Breakfast Healthy With Fruit Smoothies
[Updated 1 June 2020]Try this delicious and easy fruit smoothie recipe for the best healthy start to the day – this smoothie works well with blueberries and raspberries too, though the raspberries have more seeds!
One of these keeps me fueled up all morning and don’t forget you can add a teaspoon of rolled oats. Or even muesli if a bit of extra low release carb is needed.
For Each Person
- 1 ripe banana (chilled)
- 4 – 6 strawberries (chilled)
- ½ pint of skimmed or semi-skimmed milk
- ½ teaspoon of honey – optional (sweetener for diabetics)
- 1 well-filled teaspoon of natural unsweetened yogurt – optional
Put all the ingredients into a blender and whiz up for a few seconds; until blended to the texture you prefer.
Tips
After making it, you can refrigerate for ½ an hour or so to get it even more chilled; just stir before serving. Alternatively, in really hot weather why not freeze the fruit and freeze down some milk in ice cube trays. I do the same with the yogurt when we want an ice cold breakfast smoothie.
Generally, I keep frozen fruit and yogurt cubes ready for the Yonanas iced treat maker, which by the way is another deliciously decadent breakfast without the sugar and fat – you can read more about the Yonanas Iced Treat Maker here.
I must just include a link out here to Crazy For Crust – I have no idea how Dorothy stays so slim with this lot of awesome milkshake recipes, but she seems to. These are not a healthy alternative, but the ones I’ve made so far are utterly delicious. You will need to go on a sugar fast for the rest of the day (it’s sooo worth it).
As far as my smoothies go, we’ve tried numerous fruit mix-ups now, including using peaches and mangoes. These didn’t work well – they weren’t awful but they tasted of bananas with little else coming through – best by far is the banana and strawberry combination.
